Oshi is honored to announce a new anime adaptation titled GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, based on the acclaimed light novel series GATE SEASON 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri by Takumi Yanai. Fans can look forward to an immersive military–fantasy isekai-filled journey, packed with thrilling naval battles, high-stakes diplomacy, and a captivating new adventure set on the turbulent seas of another world.

Animation production by the renowned Studio M2, celebrated for exceptional visual storytelling in the acclaimed Netflix series Pluto. Leading production is Kasagi Labo and Oshi, in collaboration with GENCO, who produced the prior season of GATE as well as other iconic titles such as Pluto and Sword Art Online. The creative team for GATE 2: Tides of Conflict features director Toru Takahashi (Chihayafuru 3, Monster, ReLIFE), original GATE anime writer Tatsuhiko Urahata (Violet Evergarden, Monster, Hajime no Ippo), and distinctive character designs by Shigeru Fujita (Monster, Pluto, Summer Wars). Together, this team promises an exciting adaptation of the beloved original work.
The series announcement coincides with the 10th anniversary of the anime GATE, adding an extra layer of excitement for dedicated fans. Originally published by AlphaPolis, the beloved novel and manga series has surpassed 7.3 million copies in circulation, reflecting the immense enthusiasm and ongoing support from fans worldwide. Fans will have the unique opportunity to actively contribute to the anime’s production through Oshi, an innovative platform providing immersive behind-the-scenes access. By opening up the creative process, Oshi connects fans directly with creators, enabling deeper engagement with the anime they love in ways never seen before.
A teaser visual and animation are currently in development, with plans for unveiling in the coming year, providing fans their first look at the anime’s visual style and atmosphere.
Reflecting on the journey leading to this milestone, Studio M2’s producer Shintaro Maruyama shared,
"Gate, brought to life by Director Takahiko Kyōgoku and A-1 Pictures, left a lasting impression, not only on military fans, but also on many others, and became a widely talked-about title. This time, the story moves from land to sea. And now, that baton has been passed to Studio M2, where a new team is taking on the challenge.

GENCO’s associate producer Nakao Yukihiko also expressed enthusiasm for the new direction,

In GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, the story takes to the seas as a new stage and central theme. To depict realism and detailed portrayals within the vast fantasy setting of another world, we conducted extensive research with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
